Mairehau Marilicious Market!

On Friday the 27th, Mairehau had hosted a day called The  Mairehau's Marilicious market!

The Marilicious Market is where the year 9 students of Mairehau would make, create and build something to sell at the market for children, adults and teachers to buy. Weither it was food  , drinks or christmas related items. Students would have to set up in the school gym with their own invented signs and their creation to sell. Each group had been given a small container of change in case in need of one.And when the market was finished, Lead teacher of the activity, miss Boocock would take the money to count up and give some to donate to the Waka Charity.

I was in a group with my friend Rangimarama and we had made 30 christmas cards, written with "Have A merry Christmas" and some christmas jokes in different languages to represent the cultures we have in our school and community with candy canes and christmas themed stickers with googly eyes for $2.50 each card. Rangima had also made some delicious truffles to go with the cards packaged in plastic with a red ribon tied on top. On the day, Rangima had selled 10 christmas cards and the rest of the 20 went to the staff of the school to see what they wanted to buy.

This was A first time for me in a school market, and from my experience, it was really boring and I don't know if I want to do it again. There are no photo's of the previous market but here are some from last year's one with the seniors:

Its comes to your choice about what you want to sell at the market and whatever price you put it at.

Use your creativity and put together your's and other people's idea's. Help each other in the group and make sure every body has a part in the market.

-Thank you.

Stop Motion

-At Mairehau High, Year 9 students have been learning and making stop motion clips in Media class. I have learnt that the time it can take to make a stop motion clip let alone a whole movie/film can take upto more than 8 or 9 months. It at least takes over 24 pictures to make one shot per scene which means if you take more slower and more pictures per scene, then the film will look more smoother and better as if it was an animations

But taking more bigger shots can make the scene look bulky and rushed. me and A friend in Media class had made a stop motion film about A boy called Brady posting an embarrasing picture of his friend james without his permission and how much it affected him due to all the hate online.

Stay Away From Me!

-Firstly we highlight words we don't understand in Yellow.
-Next we highlight key words in Pink.
-And lastly we use the words Firstly, Next and Lastly in our summaries.

Story: Turkey Vulture: Turkey Vulture (also known as Buzzards or the Vomiting Bird)

are often misleading between a Turkey and a Vulture and can mostly be found in Southern Canada. Its mechanisms for protecting itself is by vomiting. Throwing up all of the gas and the chunks held up in its stomach toward the predator. Better safe to keep distant from these creatures as their smell is as good as their sight. Turkey vultures can vomit up to 10 feet away from them. Especially baby Turkey Vultures as they start off by using this technique at a young age. The purpose of this is because the colour of the liquid vomit can make the Vultures look less appetising and the smell can be unbearable for the predators which can scare them off to look for another prey.

Summary: This is A Southern Canadian bird called Turkey Vulture

(also known as Buzzards and Vomiting birds)  that vomits chunks of eaten decays of animals too scare off the predator which turns into this orange liquid which will make them seem least appetising. Their vomit can go up to 10 feet away and newborns can start off by 5 feet. It is said that their sight is as good as hearing.

peacock

Where are Peacocks originated from?

-Different types of peacocks are found world wide. The blue Peacock is from India and Sri Lanka. The green peacock is from Java and Myanmar which is in Burma (South East Asia and Indonesia).

What do they like to eat?

-In the wild Peacocks like fruit, berries, grains, small mammals, reptiles, small snakes and insects. They like ants, millipedes, crickets, termites, centipedes, locust and scorpions. Peacock will also eat seeds, grass, plants and flower petals and berries as part of their diet.

Why did I choose this bird?

-I chose the Peacock because I have some similarities with it.For example, the Peacocks have bright, beautiful colours and they like being social/interacting with others just like me. I like being happy and bright and I love meeting new people and being social with others because its a nice experience to meet different people.

Fears of the bird?
-Peafowl (female peacocks) are generally frightened of dogs. If you have an invisible fence, you can keep your dog in the yard to discourage visits. An alternative is to bring a leashed dog outdoors whenever you see the birds and firmly escort them from the property, keeping far enough back that Fido can't actually reach them.

What does my bird represent?

-My bird/mascot represents my personality. It describe how t likes being around other people and how it likes interacting with others just like me.Its a great experience for me to meet new people as I like making new friends. The bright colours represent feelings.I love being joyful and happy. Laughing with friends and having fun.

Book Week!!!

12/8/19

On August the 7th 2019 Belfast School dedicated a week where everybody dresses up as a character from a book and each class had to decorate their classrooms with book themes or books from a specific author. My class dedicated our wall displays to Roald Dahl. Putting a big, friendly giant on our window, a giant peach with a little boy right next to it called James, little Matilda reading her books and a big Willy Wonka on our glass door. What ever classroom had the best decorations would win a prize. My class won and in return we all won gel pens.

Hi.My name is Ariana Suisala.I am in room 21.And my teacher is Miss Lynch.I am in Greenhouse and I am 11 yrs old and a yr 7.My reason why i should be part of Student Council is because I wanna show the responsibility i have, i also follow the school values.Care,Share,Learn and Grow.I can help by making good decisions for Belfast and be a great leader by sharing my ideas and working with the team. With a smile on my face i can learn more and new responsibilities with the job and hoping i can make Belfast School a better place with the council beside me.Especially when the council or the school is at its worse.I will be a good leader and make sure i can lift them up and make sure they never give up.Cause i know i can count on the school  and the team because they can count on me.Especially when my goal is to be Head Girl so i can learn and get the respect and the responsibilities the Head Girl gets.Knowing that even if i don't get get in i know that I've tried my best in this kind of position thinking about how proud i am of myself. With the help of my teacher Miss Lynch and Jane i can always have my chin up and never down. Also believing that i can make a change with the help of my school and the council.Thank You.

My 100 word story.

It all started at a sunny beach in Asia. All packed with kids and parents with no room to spare.Casually walking on the warm, gold sand with the sun bursting its light upon the beach.Watching the blue, fresh sea glistering and reflecting the bright, shine of the big star. All of a sudden it all goes dark as if a enormous cloud’s shadow falls on to us.But the part that shocked me the most was the gigantic white and blue KLM Asia plane flies right above my nose. Not knowing what to do,I stand there in shock.Frozen dead in that spot, looking and waiting for the air force plane to swift pass us.

My Birth of Osiris story.

     The birth of Osiris.

In the beginning there was only water.Until a sun god rose from the grounds. He said his name. ‘‘I am Ra’’.And he rose up.Ra had looked down on earth and saw that it was empty. So then he said ‘‘sky’’.And there was sky,he said ‘‘mountains’’,he said forest and there were forest,he said dessert and there was dessert. All sorts of plants, trees, flowers. He even named all the animals. ‘Lion, tiger, cat, dog, jaguar, koala, giraffe, elephant, mouse, bunny,Leopard. He named all of them. Then he looked down and saw the animals were playing and he cried three tears of joy. Then he saw death and he cried two tears of pain. Those tears fell down to the earth and mixed in with the soil.It made humans. From tears of joy and tears of pain.Time had past.Sky had looked down on Earth and Earth had looked up at Sky.They fell in love.So Sky wrapped herself around Earth. They were about to get married. When Ra heard about this he was furious. “No.shouted Ra.You shall not get married. Why should you have each other when i have no one’’.Then wind blew them apart. But only tips of Sky was touching the horizon.Later something was wrong with sky.She was swelling up.She was going to have babies. “No.said Ra.You shall not have any babies of any day of any year”.So Sky keeped it in. “ooooooooo”.She moaned and groaned. “HELP ME’’.She cried. The God of Wisdom  heard her cry.So he thought for a moment. And then he said “Hey Moon.I’ll verse you to a game of chess and each time you win i will give some of my wisdom and if i win then you give me some of your moonlight.Deal’’. “Deal’’.And they challenged each other.Game after game after game. Then The God of wisdom had enough moonlight for 5 new days.Ra didn't know about this so he couldn't put his curse on it.Soon enough Sky had pushed and pushed and pushed. Then came out 5 new babies. From the old year to the new year. The first baby was Osiris. He was going to be king of the world. Then there was Isis. She was going to be queen. The END.

Term 2 Reflection

                             Term 2 Reflection.

               Highlights/Positives.

-This term, one thing that's been positive was Winter Sports, even though i didn’t get to go, i got
to see the smiles on the teams faces and
them coming out and saying ‘‘Oh,we won the game,we won the game’’ and wishing them good
luck before they go.

-Another thing that was a highlight for me was doing manaiakalani with Mark and
learning how to make our own blogs and uploading things was fun.

-Another thing was the cheering on all the people who participated in Cross Country. It was so
fun cheering them on,just watching them give it they’re all and putting all that hard effort in was
amazing.

-The last thing that i really thought that was a highlight of this term was when the whole class
had to have a talk about doors since my friend *coughs* ‘‘Shontelle’’ banged into the doors so
then Miss Lynch had to have a lesson telling us how to open doors.

                         Difficulties.

-A thing that was difficult for me was making my Genius Hour.It was hard because first i had to
figure out what i was going to base my topic on then i had to find all sorts of info and interview
some people (which was fun) and last i had to figure out how i’m going to present it.

-Another thing was my civilisation.Again,it was hard finding all that info and it was hard making
up my own civilisation because i had to think about the food, clothes, location and more.

My Genius Hour docs about Being Head Girl.

                          Being Head Girl.

So first of all, what is a Head Girl? Well a Head Girl is a person who has this special position at school.Head girls  are a decision making team with the principals, vice principals and deputy principals from their school. Also, helping throughout the school when needed .Well then, what's so special about being Head Girl? Well the thing about being Head Girl is that
1.Head Girls  get to go on fun trips with a group of leaders named preffects.

2.Head girls get to say speeches at special places like at leadership camp.
And 3.Head Girls can go through out the school and help with some classes which not much people can do.

Being Head Girl is a really special opportunity.I mean yes there are other opportunities like being a prefect or being house captain but being Head Girl comes with a lot of responsibilities that can help children  with their values by showing them how you can use you're values in different ways or by teaching them how and why you should use you’re school values which sets a great example for the juniors and new entrance as a good leader that has great  leadership. So,what's the difference between Head Girl,Prefect.

Preffects-prefects are a group of yr 8’s that are basically leaders in a way that help and share values around the school and that get to go on fun trips like leadership camp.

House colour leader-A house colour leader  is the captain/leader of a house colour which is a bunch of kids from in the school that are in a specific house colour that has a specific modo.

And a Head Girl-A head girl is a type of leader and No,it isn't like Trump or Obama  Or any body like that,it’s a person (being specific a girl )who is noticed by staff and the community who is confident and who sets a good example for the little people so when they’re older they can remember what to do when they’re older and so they can accomplish and achieve the goals they’re reaching for in they’re work.

                       The End-
